One of the most common questions I am asked is whether I have introductory, lay-level material on the origins of the NT canon that people can use in their churches. For small group Bible studies or Sunday School classes, most people simply won’t read Canon Revisited or any of my other books.
So, I am pleased to say that Ligonier is about to release a new DVD series where I give six introductory lectures on the origins and authority of the NT canon. My hope is that this will meet a need for churches looking to do something on canon but not knowing where to turn.
You can order the videos here. Here are the six topics along with description of the series:
Lecture 1: The Problem of Canon
Lecture 2: The Definition of Canon
Lecture 3: The Reason for Canon
Lecture 4: The Date of the Canon
Lecture 5: The Authors of the Canon
Lecture 6: The Attributes of the Canon
Opponents of Christianity raise challenging questions about the origins, authorship, age, and reliability of the twenty-seven books of the New Testament. When the authenticity of the New Testament is questioned, so is the gospel. In this series, Dr. Michael Kruger critiques the most common objections to the canon and presents abundant evidence that these books are the authentic, true, and inspired Word of God. This is a series to help dispel doubts and give you confidence that the right books, and only the right books, are in the Bible.

This looks great! My only concern is words like “DVD” and “CD”. I don’t consider myself to be on the cutting edge in terms of technology but I don’t have a DVD or CD player drive on my laptop. Have not had one for a while. I do have a blue ray player in the home that can play DVD but it’s covered in dust since one can now stream movies via Netflix or various other sources. I would assume the majority of people don’t have easy access to the DVD-CD mediums since streaming downloads seems to be the norm for at leas the last five years or so. I would hope they would offer these to be downloaded as well or they may run into a major lack of demand only because of the delivery medium. Something you might consider asking Ligonier about.

I am pretty sure that Ligonier will be releasing the videos digitally as well. The term “DVD” is a catch-all of sorts; almost a synonym with “video” now.
Bill says
DVD will play on BluRay player, just not vise versa.

With most Ligonier video series, the physical copy will be accompanied by a digital version added to your media library on your account. I would GUESS (not 100% sure) that this would be the same.

Would the DVD’s be able to be ordered from and also useable in the UK?
Nicolas Burns says
I’m pretty confident they would, but your best bet is to contact Ligonier with your question.

Hoping this makes it to Ligonier Connect!

I took this course from Dr. Kruger in seminary. It was extremely informative and useful. I’d highly recommend this series to anyone!

Ligonier has a ton of free resources on amazon prime video or roku. Hopefully, this will be added there too. I don’t have a DVD player only because I stream everything through a fire stick or roku.

If the series is anything as good as the class I just took at RTS Charlotte, this DVD is a MUST for you and your church.
